Gender-Based Violence (GBV)

At WNBF, we believe that every person deserves to live in safety, dignity, and respect. Gender-Based Violence (GBV) remains a major challenge affecting women, girls, children, and vulnerable individuals in South Sudan.

The WNBF GBV Program aims to raise awareness, support survivors, promote protection, and encourage communities to prevent violence and discrimination.

What is Gender-Based Violence?

Gender-Based Violence refers to harmful acts directed at individuals because of their gender. GBV can include:

• physical violence,
• sexual violence,
• emotional abuse,
• domestic violence,
• forced marriage,
• child marriage,
• and economic abuse.

Women and girls are the most affected, especially during conflict, displacement, and poverty.

Relevance to South Sudan

In South Sudan, GBV is a serious concern due to:

• conflict and insecurity,
• poverty,
• cultural practices,
• early and forced marriage,
• lack of education,
• and limited protection services.

Many survivors do not report cases because of fear, stigma, or lack of support.

Purpose of the WNBF GBV Program

The program aims to:

• create awareness about GBV,
• protect women and girls,
• support survivors,
• promote gender equality,
• and encourage peaceful and respectful communities.

WNBF Areas of Support

WNBF may support GBV prevention through:

• community awareness campaigns,
• youth education programs,
• women empowerment activities,
• counseling and psychosocial support,
• referral support for survivors,
• mentorship programs,
• and advocacy against child marriage and violence.
